WHAT ARE ARIEL PODS® MADE FROM?

Ariel All-in-1 PODS® are made with water soluble film, that rapidly dissolves upon contact with water, and does not contribute to plastic or microplastic pollution, as per EU Synthetic Polymeric Microparticles Regulation. Ariel All-in-1 PODS® make day-to-day life that little bit easier for everyone because they’re pre-dosed and compacted, thanks to their separate compartments. That means you can wash away everything from tough dirt to tomato sauce stains, without breaking a sweat!

But did you know that the Ariel All-in-1 PODS® water soluble film plays a vital role in getting your laundry outstandingly clean? It separates the Ariel All-in-1 PODS® ingredients until they reach the wash. This helps deliver that outstanding cleaning performance, even in colder temperatures. Washing colder saves energy and reduces the carbon footprint of your laundry because heating the water for your wash produces the highest carbon emissions.

Smart technology is used to make the water-soluble film for Ariel All-in-1 PODS® – ensuring it remains intact when dry (helping you safely store the detergent until your next wash), but fully dissolves upon contact with water during your wash when placed correctly in an empty drum before loading in your dirty clothes.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Ariel all-in-1 PODS® film are made with a water-soluble film which is made using Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVOH or PVA) – a well-known and safe material used for over 20 years in a range of everyday items. It can also be found in food, medicine, cosmetics and lots of household products. PVOH / PVA completely dissolves upon contact with water during your wash, meets all regulatory safety criteria and does not contribute to plastic or microplastic pollution, as per EU Synthetic Polymeric Microparticles Regulation. Smart technology is used to ensure the film remains strong when dry (helping you safely store the detergent until your next wash), but rapidly dissolves during your wash.

  • The water-soluble films used in single-dose detergents completely dissolve upon contact with water, do not contribute to microplastic pollution and are designed to be safe for the environment. The water-soluble film meets all regulatory safety criteria. The film also meets the OECD 301B criteria for biodegradability, which is widely used by regulatory agencies around the world.

  • The Ariel liquid laundry detergent that is used in Ariel All-in-1 PODS® is encased in a water-soluble film that completely dissolves upon contact with water during your wash, meets all regulatory safety criteria and does not contribute to microplastic pollution, as per EU Synthetic Polymeric Microparticles Regulation. This film is predominantly made of Polyvinyl Alcohol based polymers (or PVOH or PVA for short) – a well-known and safe material that’s been used for over 20 years in everyday products. The main components of Polyvinyl Alcohol based polymers are Ethylene Gas and Acetic Acid. These are both very common ingredients found in everyday life. Ethylene Gas is what makes your bananas ripen in your fruit bowl, and a dilute form of Acetic Acid is used in household vinegar Other common ingredients include naturally sourced materials like glycerol (derived from vegetable oils) to increase flexibility, surfactants like those commonly found in soaps and shampoos to improve solubility and processing aides like silica that is found in most toothpastes. Smart technology is used to combine these ingredients to create the water-soluble PVOH film used in Ariel All in 1 PODS®.

  • Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVOH or PVA) is a well-known and safe material that’s been used for over 20 years in everyday products. Similar PVOH / PVA has been approved by regulatory bodies around the world for use in food products, e.g. as a thickener in foods like ice cream, yogurt, and chocolate, and as a protective coating for cereals, dried fruit and nuts. Similarly, it is approved for applications, such as a coating for pills, extended-release tablets, eye drops, medical sutures, lotions, ointments, mascara, eyeliner and many other health and beauty care items

  • Numerous journal articles, technical reports and government agency evaluations provide strong supporting evidence of the water-soluble film’s safety which completely dissolves upon contact with water during your wash, meets regulatory safety criteria and does not contribute to plastic or microplastic pollution, as per EU Synthetic Polymeric Microparticles Regulation. The safe use of this PVOH / PVA film is well documented and is commonly used in many consumer products including food, medicines and beauty items. The safety and use of this PVOH / PVA material is documented and recognised by the USA Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) – who give PVOH / PVA safer choice status – the USA Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
