Last night’s dinner left a lasting impression on your clothes? Don’t worry. Our tips for removing food and drink stains will soon help you wash those marks clean away.

Quick tip: to pre-treat a stain, soak your garment in Ariel Excel Gel for 10-15 minutes before washing. Longer if the stain is particularly difficult. You can use any pre-treatment spray on cottons and polyesters. On more delicate fabrics such as linens and silks, dab a mild or neutral soap on lightly. Make sure you only pre-treat garments that are able to be washed.

Whether it’s on your clothes or your baby’s try Ariel Stain Removers or soak it in warm water containing Ariel Excel Gel for at least two hours, then wash as the care label instructs.

Beer and lager

Our new Ariel Stain Removers will make light work of beer and lager stains. But if you don’t have any, and it’s an emergency, then dab with a solution that’s one-part vinegar to four-parts water and rinse thoroughly before washing as usual according to the care label.

Beetroot and blackcurrant

Don’t be alarmed by the purple colour – it will come out. Treat with new Ariel Stain Remover then wash according to the care label. If you don’t have any Ariel Stain Remover, soak in cold water for an hour, then wash with Ariel powder or tablets – avoid using Ariel Colour, or a liquid detergent.

Butter/cooking oil/grease /margarine

Pre-treat with Ariel Excel Gel and leave for one hour. Then wash as normal at the hottest temperature indicated on the care label.

Chewing gum

Gum is easier to remove when it’s hard, so place the affected item into a bag in the freezer, or put ice onto the gum. Once it’s hardened, you’ll find it breaks off quite easily. Then pre-treat the area with Ariel Excel Gel before washing as normal.

Coffee and tea

Treat with new Ariel Stain Remover then wash according to the care label. If you don’t have any Ariel Stain Remover, soak in cold water for an hour and wash with Ariel detergent. Then make yourself another cup.

Desserts – including chocolate/ice cream/jam

If you accidentally missed your mouth, soak your clothes in warm water containing Ariel, or pre-treat with Ariel Excel Gel then wash as normal according to the care label.

Fruit

Pre-treat any stains with Ariel Stain Remover, then wash according to the care label. If you don’t have any Ariel Stain Remover, soak in cold water for an hour then wash with Ariel powder or tablets – avoid using Ariel Colour, or a liquid detergent.

Mayonnaise and milk

Soak in warm water containing Ariel, or pre-treat with Ariel Excel Gel, then wash according to the fabric care label.

Spices – including chili/curry/mustard

Soak in warm water containing Ariel solution or pre-treat with Ariel Excel Gel, then wash according to the fabric care label.

Tomato/ketchup/sauce

Soak for one hour in cold water. Pre-treat the stain with Ariel Stain Remover and then wash as normal in Ariel detergent and according to the fabric care label.

Wine

Red wine isn’t the problem it once was, thanks to Ariel Stain Remover liquid. Simply treat the stain then wash according to the care label. Alternatively you could try soaking in cold water before washing with Ariel powder or tablets – avoid using Ariel Colour or a liquid detergent.
